Kilnsey Black Magic. A modern North Country fly invented by Fredrick Mould for fishing the waters below Bolton Abbey. This fly first came to the attention of many northern anglers with the publication of Mould's book "Presenting the Fly to the Trout" in 1967. In later years the pattern was changed by members of the famous Kilnsey Angling Club to add more attraction and weight.
Traditionally fished as an imitation of the small Chironomids this pattern excels when there are any small black flies about. For years this fly was one of the Yorkshire Dales Rivers best kept secrets. Traditionally dressed with black silk and a fine red wire thorax overlaid with black peacock herl and two turns of black hen hackle.
