Blades Purple Dun Spider
This fly was originally invented by the famous North Country angler James Blades of Hawes. The simple north country spider was tied for fishing on the river Ure at Hawes the home waters of James Blades. Often used as either a wet or dry fly pattern, the fly was Blades signature North Country fly pattern and regularly took both trout and grayling when all other North country spiders failed. This Spider pattern can be fished either singularly or on the point of a three fly cast. It is the perfect spider pattern for when small beetles are being blown on to the waters surface. This small fly is featured in my series of articles in Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine about the "Lost Flies of the Yorkshire Dales"
